Privacy Policy
Evoke is a mindmap notebook. This policy explains what information Evoke collects, why, and what happens to it. It is written to be read, not to be skimmed past.
Evoke is a small independent product. There is no advertising, no data selling, and no third party tracking of any kind.
What we collect
Your account. Your email address and a password. Passwords are hashed by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.
Your handle. If you use note sharing, you choose a public @tag. See What other people can see below.
What you write. Everything you create in Evoke: topic names, your notes, your mindmaps including any drawings, text, shapes, and images you add, plus your categories, folders, and review schedules.
How you study. Each time you review a topic we record when you reviewed it and the rating you gave yourself. This is what makes spaced repetition work.
How you use the app. We record which buttons and features are used, along with the time and your account id. This tells us which parts of Evoke are useful and which are not. It is stored in our own database and is not shared with any analytics company.
Technical information. Our hosting provider records standard server logs, including IP addresses and browser type, as part of serving the site.
What we do not collect
We do not ask for your real name, phone number, address, date of birth, or payment details. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking pixels. We do not use third party analytics services.
We do not send your notes, mindmaps, or any other content to any AI or machine learning service. Evoke contains no AI features and makes no calls to any AI provider.
Why we collect it
Only to run the product: to sign you in, to store and display what you create, to schedule your reviews, to fix problems, and to understand which features are worth improving. We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Who we share it with
Two service providers, both of which process data on our behalf:
- Supabase stores the database, handles sign in, and stores uploaded images.
- Vercel hosts the website and the app.
That is the complete list. We do not share your information with anyone else except where the law requires it.
What other people can see
Most of what you create is private to your account. Three things are not, and you should understand them before using note sharing.
- Your @tag is visible to everyone with an Evoke account. Any signed in user can look up handles. Do not use your real name or anything identifying as your tag if you want to stay anonymous. Your email address is never visible to other users.
- A shared note is a permanent copy. When you share a topic with someone or post it to a group, Evoke sends them a frozen copy of that topic, including its notes, mindmap, drawings, and images. Editing or deleting your own version afterwards does not change or remove their copy. Only deleting the share itself does that.
- Image links work for anyone who has them. Images you add to a mindmap are stored at long, randomly generated web addresses. Nobody can browse or search for them, but anyone who is given the exact link can view that image without signing in. This is what allows shared notes to display their images. Treat images the way you would treat an "anyone with the link" file share, and do not put anything sensitive in a mindmap image.
Cookies and local storage
Evoke uses cookies to keep you signed in. That is their only purpose. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, which is why there is no cookie banner.
Evoke also stores some things in your browser to make the app work well: your light or dark theme choice, a backup copy of the mindmap you are editing so that your work is not lost, anything you have copied on the canvas, and small display preferences. This information stays on your device.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your content from our database. Backups may take up to 30 days to cycle out.
Your choices
You can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, or delete it. Email evklearning@gmail.com and we will handle it. If you are in the EU or UK, or in California, you have these rights by law, and we extend the same rights to everyone regardless of where you live.
Age
Evoke is for people aged 13 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email evklearning@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Security
We protect your data with database level access rules so that accounts cannot read each other's content, and everything travels over an encrypted connection. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell you promptly if something happens that affects your information.
Where your data is held
Evoke is operated from the United States and your information is stored there. If you use Evoke from outside the United States, you are agreeing to that.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. For anything significant we will tell you in the app.
